Abbey Nature Preserve

The Abbey Nature Preserve is a historic trail that has been traversed for over three centuries by the enslaved community of Poplar Grove, and it is recognized as a significant part of the Gullah Geechee National Heritage Corridor. This forested path is surrounded by stunning trees, plants, flowers, and unique ecosystems native to Coastal North Carolina. Walk the same path that some of the first African Americans did, passing by honeysuckles, lush greenery, and ancient trees. Enjoy the great outdoors with family, friends, and pets while strolling, birdwatching, or simply observing the abundant wildlife. Dedicated to the memory of Margaret Abbey Foy Moore
