Pender County Citizens Leadership Academy

Welcome to the Inaugural 2025 Pender County Citizens Leadership Academy (CLA)!

We are thrilled to present this unique opportunity to foster public service, enhance citizen engagement, and promote open communication throughout our community. Each session of the academy will spotlight various departments and agencies across Pender County, reflecting our steadfast commitment to transparency and civic involvement.

What Are the Goals of the Citizens Academy?

Increase Knowledge of Citizens
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of Pender County's structure and functions, equipping them with the knowledge necessary to navigate local governance effectively. Through interactive sessions, attendees will learn about the responsibilities of different departments and agencies, the decision-making processes that affect their daily lives, and how they can play an active role in shaping their community.

Empower Community Participation
By providing insights into local government operations, the academy aims to empower citizens to engage more fully in civic activities. Participants will learn about opportunities for involvement, from attending public meetings to volunteering for community initiatives, ultimately fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility for the well-being of Pender County.

Eligibility

  • Citizens must live in Pender County. 
  • There is no fee for participation. The minimum age for enrollment is 18 years of age. 
  • All applicants will be promptly notified of their admission status once applications have been reviewed.
