Pender County, NC – The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activated this morning at a level three.
Due to the recent weather conditions. Pender County is experiencing significant flooding.
Here's what you need to know:
Weather Update:
- Some areas received 2 to 5 inches of rainfall yesterday.
- An additional 4 to 9 inches of rain is expected today through Thursday, likely resulting in flash flooding in certain areas.
- There is a possibility of isolated tornadoes today through Thursday morning. The threat will shift to eastern NC during the day.
Closings:
- County offices, courts, and schools are closed today.
- Pender County Schools will also remain closed tomorrow.
- All parks are closed. (National, State and Local)
Shelters:
Two shelters will open at 3 PM today at the following locations:
Topsail Elementary - 17385 Hwy 17, Hampstead, NC 28443
Cape Fear Elementary - 1882 NC-133, Rocky Point, NC 28457
This shelter is pet-friendly for dogs and cats. Vaccinations are required.
Residents are encouraged to bring enough food and medicine for their pets to last for three days. Additionally, please ensure you have any toiletries, necessary medications, and special dietary items you may need for yourself.
Rivers:
The Northeast Cape Fear River is projected to rise above 16 feet, reaching major flood stage.
The Black River is also projected to rise above 16 feet, reaching major flood stage.
Remember, turn around, and don't drown. It is impossible to tell the exact depth of water covering a roadway or the condition of the road below the water. This is especially true at night when vision is more limited. It is never safe to drive or walk through floodwaters. Be safe and use your best judgment.
