Burgaw, NC— Pender County has successfully completed its annual review of the mitigation action strategies outlined in the 2021 Southeastern North Carolina Hazard Mitigation Plan. Approved by the Board of Commissioners on March 15, 2021, this comprehensive plan is pivotal in mitigating the county’s risk to various hazards, particularly floods.

The annual review, conducted by Pender County staff, evaluates the status of each mitigation action strategy. These strategies are crucial components of the county’s efforts to enhance floodplain management and ensure community safety. The review categorizes the strategies as complete, in progress, or ongoing, reflecting the county's continuous commitment to hazard mitigation.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan emphasizes a proactive approach, integrating many of these strategies into the county's regulatory framework and public outreach initiatives. This ongoing implementation underscores Pender County’s dedication to reducing the impact of natural disasters on its residents and infrastructure.

Residents and stakeholders can access the full Hazard Mitigation Plan, including detailed tables of the floodplain management strategies, on the county’s Planning and Community Development website.

This review is part of Pender County's annual re-certification process for the Community Rating System (CRS), which helps to lower flood insurance premiums for residents through effective floodplain management practices.
