The Pender County Sheriff’s Office recognized Sgt. Jodi Redding for her more than 30 years of dedicated service during a retirement presentation held at the Pender County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Sheriff Cutler highlighted Sgt. Redding’s commitment to public service, professionalism and the safety of Pender County residents. Sgt. Redding began her career with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 4, 1991, as a patrol deputy, quickly establishing a reputation for integrity, dependability and service.

During her career, Sgt. Redding also served as a school resource officer in Pender County schools, where she was known as both a protector and a mentor. Her ability to connect with students and staff fostered positive relationships and reflected on her deep care for the community.

Through years of hard work and leadership, Sgt. Redding was promoted to the rank of sergeant. As a supervisor, she oversaw the sheriff’s office logistics section, managing uniforms, equipment and the agency’s vehicle fleet. Her attention to detail and commitment to excellence ensured deputies had the tools and resources necessary to serve safely and effectively.

“For more than three decades, Sgt. Redding exemplified unwavering service and professionalism,” Sheriff Cutler said. “Her legacy will continue through the countless lives she impacted and the standard of excellence she leaves behind.”

During the meeting, Major Collier presented Sgt. Redding with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest honor for service, awarded by the Office of the Governor. The award recognizes retiring public servants with 30 or more years of service in North Carolina.

Major Collier read the official citation conferred by Josh Stein and delivered the Official Toast of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine:

“Here’s to the land of the long leaf pine,
The summer land where the sun doth shine,
Where the weak grow strong and the strong grow great,
Here’s to ‘Down Home,’ the Old North State!”

The award confers upon Sgt. Redding the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary, and the lifelong privileges associated with members of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Members of the Pender County Board of County Commissioners congratulated Sergeant Redding on her retirement and thanked her for her 34 years of dedicated and faithful service to Pender County, including her work supporting the county’s school system.

Sgt. Redding said it was an honor and a pleasure serving Pender County throughout her law enforcement career.
