Pender County to Host Public Input Session for Abbey Nature Preserve Trailhead Project

Home Posted on February 26, 2026

Abbey Nature Preserve Trailhead flyerThe Pender County Parks and Recreation Department will host a public input session on Wednesday, March 19, to gather community feedback for the proposed Abbey Nature Preserve Trailhead project and potential grant applications to the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) and the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).

Residents are invited to share their vision for recreation amenities that could be included in the proposed trailhead development. Community input will help guide the County’s planning efforts and strengthen potential applications for matching grant funds through PARTF and LWCF.

The proposed Abbey Nature Preserve Trailhead project would be located adjacent to the Abbey Nature Preserve conservation easement property. Pender County recognizes the growing need for additional parks, recreation resources, and greenspace, and values citizen input as plans move forward.

The public session will take place under the tent in the parking lot of Abbey Nature Preserve, located at 90 Heart Pine Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28411. The session will be held in an open-house format. Community members are invited to stop by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to share their thoughts and ideas.
