Vital Records
The Health Director is the Registrar for births and deaths occurring in Pender County with Deputy Registrars appointed by the Health Director. Hospitals and funeral directors are required to send birth and death certificates within five days to the local health department. Copies of birth and death certificates are filed at the Pender County Register of Deeds and the original certificates are sent to the North Carolina State Office of Vital Records. The Deputy Registrar processes birth and death certificates and works with local hospitals and funeral directors to assure that death certificates are filed as required by General Statute 130-A. Certified birth and death certificates are available at the Pender County Register of Deeds or by mail from the Office of Vital Records, Department of Health and Human Services, Raleigh, North Carolina.
