Local leaders gathered for the annual State of the County address on Feb. 10 to discuss the county’s progress, key initiatives, and plans for the future. The event brought together elected officials, community leaders, and residents, providing a platform for collaboration and forward-thinking dialogue.
The address began with an invocation by Pastor Phil Ortega, followed by a moment of silence led by Chairman Randy Burton in honor of Stephanie Key of Pender County Tourism, who recently passed.

Burgaw Mayor Olivia Dawson focused on economic development and sustainability efforts in the town, while Surf City Mayor Teresa Batts discussed vital shoreline protection measures and recreational investments aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
- Topsail Beach Interim Mayor Morton Blanchard highlighted ongoing infrastructure upgrades and the addition of new public facilities to meet the growing needs of the community.
- Tammie Parris, Executive Director of the Pender Education Partnership, shared the organization’s exciting 10th-anniversary celebrations and continued collaboration with community partners to enhance educational opportunities.
