Home Posted on December 04, 2024

Rocky Point, NC – At approximately 2:30 AM on 12/4/2024, a house fire broke out on Deepwoods Ridge in Rocky Point, prompting a swift response from the Rocky Point Volunteer Fire Department, Pender EMS & Fire, and New Hanover Fire & Rescue. Firefighters worked diligently to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross, who are providing immediate support and resources during this challenging time. Notably, two family cats were rescued from the home, ensuring their safe return to their owners.

The Pender County Fire Marshal's office conducted the investigation. The incident was determined to be caused by a chimney fire that spread into the attic space of the residence.

In light of this event, local fire officials remind residents of the importance of maintaining their heating systems. Regularly cleaning chimneys and ensuring smoke detectors are operational can significantly reduce the risk of house fires. It is recommended that homeowners check their smoke detectors monthly and have their chimneys inspected and cleaned at least once a year.
