Weather Alert: Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Throughout the Weekend
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch and Flash Flood Warning for our area due to the continued showers and thunderstorms expected today and throughout the weekend.
Emergency Operations Center Activation:
- The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is currently at Level 4 activation.
- Emergency Management (EM) staff are on alert and actively monitoring river levels daily until they return to normal.
Rainfall Totals:
- Tropical Storm Debby has brought significant rainfall to our region, with amounts ranging from approximately 5 inches in the Holly Shelter Game Land area to nearly 13 inches in the Long Creek area.
- An additional ¾ inch to 1 inch of rainfall is anticipated today, which could exacerbate current conditions.
River Flooding:
- Both the Northeast Cape Fear River and the Black River are expected to reach major flood-stage levels.
