Pender County emergency officials are asking residents to stay off the roads. Conditions are hazardous, with slick and icy surfaces making travel risky. Some secondary roads are covered with snow and ice, and bridges and overpasses will freeze first. Temperatures will drop even further throughout the evening, and officials strongly urge everyone to stay home.

Save Energy
Both Duke Energy and Four County are asking residents to help reduce energy use during the extreme cold.
- Lower your thermostat when possible.
- Seal drafts and close curtains or blinds at night to keep cold air out and warm air in.
- Limit the use of large electric appliances (washer and dryer) during the coldest parts of the day to reduce overall demand.
5 P’s of Cold Weather Safety:
- People: Dress warmly, limit exposure, and check on family, friends, and neighbors.
- Plants: Bring sensitive plants indoors or protect them from freezing.
- Pets: Provide warm shelter and do not leave pets outdoors in extreme cold.
- Pipes: Insulate exposed pipes and allow faucets to drip.
If you experience a water-related emergency during this time, please contact Pender Water & Sewer after-hours line at (910) 471-1041 for assistance. - Portable Heaters: Use heaters safely, keep them away from combustibles, and never leave them unattended.
