System pressure advisory for Vineyard Trace subdivision

Pender County Utilities (PCU) customers in the Vineyard Trace Road Subdivision, off Richard Switch Road will be temporarily turned off at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26. The water service will be shut off for approximately two hours, to conduct a water main extension.

“Water service will be returned upon completion of the work,” said James Proctor, PCU superintendent.

Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

“Therefore, consumers in the impacted service area are advised to boil all water used for human consumption,” Proctor said. “This includes drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation. or use bottled water until this advisory is lifted.”

Proctor said the advisory will be in effect for a minimum of 24 hours.

Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

Water customers are strongly urged to conserve water whenever possible.
