Watermain repair to impact portions of Hampstead – March 14, 2019

HAMPSTEAD – Pender County Water Utilities customers will experience a disruption of service Thursday, March 14, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. while crews repair a watermain.

Impacted areas of Hampstead include homes along Country Club Drive between Sawgrass and Kings Landing roads, Waldorf Way, Bramble Drive, Shandy Way between Waldorf Way and Emerald Ridge Drive, Julep Trace, Collins Way, Milano Court, and Kensington Court within the Villages of Olde Point.

“Water services to those homes will be temporarily turned off to conduct a watermain repair,” said Kenny Keel, Pender County Utilities director.

Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Keel said it is important that when water service is restored, water customers are advised to boil all water used for human consumption, including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation. Bottled water is an option for drinking, brushing teeth, and food preparation.

Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

Water customers are strongly urged to conserve water whenever possible.

“Water service will be returned to you as soon as possible upon completion of the work,” said Keel. “The system pressure advisory remains in effect until further written notice.”
