Disaster Code Enforcement Response Teams

PENDER COUNTY, NC – To assist in assessments and recovery, Pender County is working with the North Carolina Building Inspector’s Association’s (NCBIA) Disaster Code Enforcement Response Teams (DCERT) to assist in Rapid Assessments for Damage Assessment as well as assistance with emergency repair inspections.

“The NCBIA Disaster Code Enforcement Response Team provides rapid deployment for the evaluation and observation of vulnerability and the estimation of risk to properties located in areas subjected to declared disasters from weather, earthquakes, flooding and all other potential hazards of related disasters when and wherever assistance is requested,” said Kyle Breuer, Planning and Community Development director.

As building safety and the safety of our citizens is a top priority, DCERT’s assistance is critical in maintaining our mission “to contributing to public safety by insuring compliance with the North Carolina State Building Code including plumbing, mechanical, and electrical installations.”

The American Legion and Pender EMS & Fire have stepped up in this time of need to provide lodging and resources for these teams.

“When both parties were asked for the resources from County Emergency Management, we knew there’d be no issue to provide whatever they needed to complete their mission” said David Williams, Pender County commissioner.
